Program Overview

Experienced HR professionals often say they want “give back” to their profession. Particularly as they reflect on their career milestones and collection of experiences. The TPPA Mentoring Program is a great way for experienced HR professionals to help develop the learning professionals in our membership. By participating in a mentoring relationship, they can help emerging colleagues navigate the corporate world and their careers (“if only I'd known then what I know now”).

The TPPA Mentoring Program was launched three years ago in response to our membership’s priorities and is definitely a success. It is an annual program in which members apply to express their interest to participate as a mentor or a protégé, or both. All participants in the TPPA Mentorship Program are expected to comply with the HRPA Code of Ethics. So far 176 Mentor and Protégé partners have participated in the program. Feedback from past participants highly recommends the program to other TPPA members!

Why Become a Mentor? Transferable Skills Development

The skills needed to be a Mentor, listed below, are transferable in a wide range of contexts to assist career progression, including management. Organizations need good people managers with active listening skills and good judgment of someone's skills and potential. The Mentoring relationship enables you to:
  • Develop strengths (yours and theirs)
  • Check assumptions (yours and theirs)
  • Clarify misunderstandings (yours and theirs)
  • Work with people from different backgrounds and in different contexts
  • Practice offering positive and constructive feedback
  • Generate workable solutions together in a mutually respectful way
  • Motivate, advise and support while empowering someone to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their own actions and development

Please sign up and be part of the exciting and rewarding experience.
